2023-2024 Programs Offered by BSCSTARSkate
The STARSkate program offers skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate, synchro, and artistic skating.
Tuesday and/or Thursdays 6:25 p.m. to 7:50 p.m.
Program Details: Each night there is a schedule posted at ice level that outlines group and individual lessons. Our Figure Skaters (STARSkate 2 +) will have a stroking lesson which all skaters participate in as well as a freeskate lesson, and either a skills or dance lesson. Skills and Dance will rotate between Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our club uses a ‘Team Coaching’ program in which skaters get each of the coaches for all different aspects of the program as each group and session alternates which group in learning from each coach. This allows the skaters to get instructions in several different formats with different perspectives and we have already seen many benefits to structuring our program in this manner. It also helps to build team spirit and a positive environment to learn each skill.
Note: Must have passed Level 6 Canskate.
Intro to STARSkate & STARSkate Level 1
Our club encourages any skater planning to enter our STARSkate session or just starting STARSkate to join us on a guided session as they complete the CANSkate requirements and begin to be exposed to the opportunities of STARSkate sessions in a controlled, slower ice session.
Tuesday and/or Thursdays 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.
Program Details: The Intro Figure Skaters have the unique opportunity to be on the ice with the StarSkaters. The Intro skaters will also receive club lessons focused on the ABC’s of figure skating and the remaining skills required to pass CanSkate Levels 4,5 & 6. The Intro Skaters are participating in program based activities the entirety of the time they are on the ice in order to be in compliance with CanSkate programming requirements.
Note: These skaters should be working on level 3 Canskate or higher, and/or have the coach's approval.
CANSkate (Level 1-6)
This is group skating lessons for children ages 5 and older to learn the fundamentals of skating. Skaters ages 3 & 4 may enroll in this group if they can already skate independently. Skaters will work in groups with skaters of similar abilities.
Tuesday and/or Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Pre-CANSkate
This is group skating lessons for children ages 3 & 4 with little to no skating experience. Parents may need to accompany skaters on the ice if the BSC is lacking volunteers.
Tuesday and/or Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
All skaters working on Canskate Level 5 or lower must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet on ice at all times. A cage on the helmet is the choice of the parent, but recommended for new skaters.
